My favourite Pinterest pointers

If you’ve read my blog fairly frequently you’ll know I’m kind of addicted to Pinterest at the minute. Aside from passing the lazy summer days by scrolling through pretty pictures of places I want to go, what I want in my wardrobe and how I’d love my house to look, I’ve come across some damn nifty life pointers too. There are the ‘I’d have never thought of that’ pins and the pins that might just change your life, ahem, your day. I thought I’d share a few with you:

  1. Instead of making ice cubes from water, make them with blended fruits, like strawberries. Use them in lemonade and you’ll have a tasty fruity drink instead of a watered down one.
  2. Use lemon juice to clean your bathroom and kitchen. This works better than the expensive bottled cleaners. Just half a lemon and scrub on the sink to see it clean in no time. For a longer term solution, mix lemon juice with white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle. Shiny.
  3. Hearing the words Mod Podge too often? Try flour, water, sugar and white vinegar instead. Miles cheaper and you don’t have to ship from the US either.
  4. When hanging curtains, place them on a rail to cover the wall either side of the window, rather than the edges of the window. It makes it look a lot bigger this way, and you don’t block any light out during the day.
  5. Hide your Internet router by removing the pages from a book with a decorative cover you’d like on display and place on it’s back. Slot the router inside the book.
  6. To make your house smell warm and gorgeous, simmer a pan of water, vanilla essence, some rosemary sprigs and lemon slices.
  7. Put plastic placemats on the shelves in your fridge for easy shelf cleaning and to make the inside of your fridge look even cooler than usual (and distract you from the fact that it’s mostly empty).
  8. Use toothache gel to stop mosquito bites from itching.
  9. Use empty toilet roll tubes as tiny plant pots to start off seedlings. Just put the tube in the ground when the plant is ready and the tube will decompose on it’s own.
  10. One for the kids: teach them about how plants grow by planting jelly beans in the garden. Later, place Chupa Chup lollies where the jelly beans went as flowers that have grown.
